The AI sample is a single Claude-Sonnet analysis of one of your closed trades — verdict, what went well, what could have been better — rendered on the Briefing tab as a free preview. The pin is the load-bearing primitive: the first time a Free user visits the Briefing tab, the backend picks their most-recent closed trade, stamps `users.ai_sample_trade_id = that.id`, and runs the analysis. Every subsequent visit returns the same trade's cached analysis. Total LLM cost per Free user: one call, ever.
Pro and Pro Plus users see the card hidden — they already have the real per-trade AI flow on every trade-detail modal. The sample is purely a Free-tier conversion teaser.
- Read it once carefully — that's what Pro Plus delivers on every trade, not just one. If the analysis surfaces a pattern you didn't see (chased entry, late stop, position-sizing drift), that's the upgrade signal.
- The trade stays pinned — even after you import more trades, the sample doesn't shuffle. This is intentional: consistency over freshness, so the upgrade decision isn't muddied by a new sample every visit.
- Empty state means "no closed trades yet" — link to /welcome opens the trade-import flow.
- Pro / Pro Plus users don't see the card — they have the real flow.
Open Briefing as a Free user. The AI-Sample card sits below the Weekly Preview, between the daily mantra and the asset-class picker. The first time you see it, take a few minutes to actually read the analysis end-to-end. Compare it against what you would have written in your own journal entry for that trade — the AI's lens picks up things a self-review usually misses (size-relative-to-account, hold-time vs. setup type, the discipline cost of moving the stop).
If you find the analysis useful and if you trade often enough that one analysis per trade would compound across your whole journal, the upgrade math is simple: Pro Plus gives you that exact reading on every trade you close, plus the Sunday weekly digest, plus the per-journal coach.
If the analysis didn't tell you anything you don't already know — Pro Plus probably isn't your conversion moment yet. Free's read-only access to the Onyx-Engine pattern detectors is enough until you outgrow it.
