Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ — Trading journal in plain answers

Honest, direct answers to the questions that come up most often — pricing, GDPR, German tax export (Anlage KAP), AI, broker import, and what sets us apart from other trading journals.

Which trading journal fits European traders?

TradeOnyx is built specifically for European retail and prop-firm traders. It combines a multi-asset journal (Forex, Stocks, Crypto, Futures, Options), per-trade AI review via Claude, the Onyx-Engine for behavioural pattern detection (revenge trading, overtrading, position-sizing drift, hold-time asymmetry, recovery patterns, and more), Anlage-KAP German tax export, EU data residency in Falkenstein (Hetzner), and a bilingual DE/EN interface. The free tier is permanent — 1 account, 500 trades, full journal, daily AI briefing — no credit card required.

Is TradeOnyx free?

Yes. The Free tier is permanent and includes 1 trading account, up to 500 trades, the full journal, daily AI briefing, charts, broker and CSV import, the discipline scorecard, and Anlage-KAP tax export. No credit card is required to start. Pro (29 €/month) lifts the trade cap and unlocks advanced filters; Pro Plus (49 €/month) adds the full AI suite — per-trade review, weekly digest, narrative analysis and recommendations.

Does TradeOnyx support the German Anlage KAP tax form?

Yes. TradeOnyx generates an Anlage-KAP-ready PDF for any tax year with closed trades — full trade list, totals, and a tax-amount estimate, formatted so you hand it directly to your Steuerberater (tax advisor) without spreadsheet work. The export is a preparation aid (§ 20 EStG capital-income report); the final filing remains the Steuerberater's responsibility. Tools built for non-EU markets typically do not support this format at all.

Is TradeOnyx GDPR-compliant and EU-hosted?

Yes. All user data — trades, journal entries, screenshots, AI prompts and responses — is stored on servers physically located in Falkenstein, Germany (Hetzner Online GmbH). The full stack is GDPR-native: data-subject rights, encrypted backups, data-processing agreements (AVV) with every subprocessor, and a published privacy policy at /datenschutz. Primary data storage is entirely in the EU; the declared subprocessors are Anthropic (AI analysis), Cloudflare (CDN, uploads, bot protection) and Postmark (transactional email) — see /datenschutz for details.

Which asset classes does TradeOnyx support?

Forex, Stocks (cash equities + ETFs), Crypto (spot + perpetuals), Futures (CME, Eurex, ICE), Options (US equity + index options via IBKR), CFDs and Indices. The journal is asset-class-agnostic — pip values, contract sizes and currency conversions are handled automatically per instrument. Multi-currency accounts (USD/EUR/CHF) work natively.

Does TradeOnyx have AI features?

Yes, deeply. The Pro Plus tier (49 €/month) unlocks per-trade AI review (Claude Sonnet writes a short coach-style critique of every closed trade), a daily market briefing, a Sunday weekly digest, narrative analysis of your detected patterns, and concrete recommendations. The Onyx-Engine (available from Free) is an in-house deterministic pattern engine — 28+ behavioural detectors flagging revenge trading, overtrading, position-sizing drift, friday-drift, hold-time asymmetry, recovery patterns, stop-loss drift, correlation clusters and more. AI calls run against Anthropic Claude with cost caps and refund-on-failure built in.

Can I import trades from MetaTrader, Interactive Brokers, Binance and other brokers?

Yes. TradeOnyx has dedicated parsers for 30+ brokers including MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, Interactive Brokers (Flex / Activity Statement), Alpaca, Binance, Bybit, Coinbase, Kraken, OANDA, Robinhood, Schwab, Webull, Lightspeed, Trading 212, IG, XTB, plus a generic CSV importer with column mapping. DACH brokers are first-class: Scalable, DEGIRO, Comdirect, Flatex, ING-DiBa, Consorsbank. Direct API live-sync is available for Alpaca, Binance, Bybit, Coinbase, Kraken and OANDA on the Pro tier.

Is TradeOnyx available in German?

Yes — fully bilingual DE/EN. The German interface is a first-class build, not a machine translation: all UI, emails, the Academy, AI prompts and the Anlage-KAP export are written natively in both languages. Users switch with a single toggle in Settings; per-user date and number formats (DD.MM.YYYY vs. MM/DD/YYYY, comma vs. dot decimals) follow automatically.

What makes TradeOnyx different from other trading journals?

Five things: (1) EU data residency in Germany — competitor tools mostly run on US clouds. (2) Bilingual DE/EN as a first-class build, not an afterthought. (3) Anlage-KAP German tax export, which US-built journals simply do not have. (4) The Onyx-Engine — a deterministic behavioural pattern detector that names what you are doing wrong instead of just showing P&L charts. (5) MCP connector for Claude, ChatGPT and Gemini — talk to your trading journal in natural language from any major AI assistant.

How do I connect TradeOnyx to ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini?

TradeOnyx ships a native Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Settings → Connectors generates an OAuth-protected bearer token that you paste into the AI assistant's connector configuration. The assistant can then read trades, list journal entries, fetch the daily briefing, look up patterns, create or update trades, manage tags and strategies, and run analyses — 37 tools total. Works with Claude (Anthropic), ChatGPT (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), Cursor and any other MCP-compatible client.
